Visiting law professor to speak on Russian progress toward rule of law
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Alexander Domrin will speak on "Russia's 'Progress'
Toward the Rule of Law" Tuesday, Aug. 5 at noon at the Newman Catholic
Student Center, 104 E. Jefferson in Iowa City.
Domrin is a visiting professor at the UI College of Law where he teaches
Comparative Constitutional Law of Russia and Newly Independent States. He
also held a fellowship at the College of Law in 1991 and was visiting professor
at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Villanova University's political
science department.
From 1994-96 he served as coordinator of the Russian-American Parliamentary
Development Program, the U.S. Congressional Research Service in Moscow and
the Russian Federal Assembly in Moscow. He holds degrees from the Institute
of International Relations, USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and the Institute
of Legislation and Comparative Law, Russian Federation Supreme Soviet. He
anticipates receiving his doctor of juridical science in January 1998 from
the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
An optional lunch will be served and reservations will taken through Monday

The Iowa City Foreign Relations Council is a nonprofit association of persons
interested in learning more about U.S. foreign policy and world affairs. The
goal of the group is to provide members with the opportunity to hear about
many of the experts who visit the University of Iowa campus and the Iowa City/Cedar
Rapids area in order to increase interest in and knowledge about world affairs
and international understanding.
This event is sponsored by the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council (ICFRC)
and the University of Iowa Center for International and Comparative Studies.
The program is sponsored in part by Mike Hubber of Toyota of Iowa City.
From September to June, the ICFRC hosts two to three meetings per month,
usually from noon to 1 p.m. These meeting times allow for participation by
business, professional and academic persons as well as other area residents.
ICFRC currently has about 200 members. To join the ICFRC, annual membership
fees are as follows: general member's dues - $50; household of two persons,
$75; and student/visiting scholar - $20.
